The development of the Tapa sports and leisure centre is moving forward — design work is beginning

This week, AquaTapa OÜ, managed by Capital Mill, and AS Merko Ehitus Eesti signed a contract under which design work will begin for the new sports and leisure centre in the town of Tapa.

The centre’s property has a total area of 18,676 m² and is located at Spordi tn 8. Construction is planned to begin in May 2026, with the works expected to last approximately 14 months.

According to Marek Hergauk, Head of the General Construction Division at Merko Ehitus Eesti, preparatory work has already been carried out together with the client to launch the design process. “During the next stage of design, the technical solutions and details of the sports and leisure centre will be specified to the extent required before construction begins. We understand the long wait for a swimming pool among local residents as well as the military units and allied forces serving in Tapa, and we are moving ahead with the design work at a fast pace so that construction can begin as soon as possible,” said Hergauk.

Silver Neemelo, Head of Construction at Capital Mill OÜ, emphasised that the project symbolises the company’s wish to contribute to the region’s development. “The Tapa sports and leisure centre project is an important step in developing the region’s infrastructure and a good example of effective cooperation between the public and private sectors,” said Silver Neemelo, Head of Construction at Capital Mill OÜ. “Our goal is to ensure that the centre is completed to a high standard, efficiently, and in line with strict technical and environmental requirements.”

According to Maksim Butšenkov, Chairman of Tapa Rural Municipality Council, signing the contract marks a major step forward. “Every day brings us closer to our goal — the completion of the leisure and sports centre. I am confident that cooperation between two strong companies will bring a good result and ensure quality. Our goal is not simply to construct a building, but to create a place where people feel comfortable and safe. The centre will become a place where people meet, communicate, and feel at home,” said Butšenkov.

The new sports and leisure centre will offer modern sports and recreation facilities in Tapa. The centre is planned to include an eight-lane swimming pool with a children’s pool, a spa and sauna centre, a gym, and a catering area with a sports bar. The building’s architectural concept is designed to emphasise closeness to nature and a sense of community, offering a modern, energy-efficient, and functional environment suitable for training, relaxation, and community events. The building’s architect is Hannes Koppel from the architecture bureau Asum Arhitektid.
